The channel conversation is commercial, never about selling.
Targets, schemes, stock, credit. Useful conversations, all of them, and none of them changes what the partner’s salesperson says in front of a customer.
Making someone else sell well is a different skill from selling, and almost nobody is trained for it.

A channel manager carries a number they cannot directly influence. The order is placed by a distributor, to a customer the manager may never meet, in a conversation nobody from your company heard.
Faced with that, most channel teams fall back on the two levers they do control: discount and target pressure. Both work briefly. Neither changes what the distributor’s salesperson says in front of the customer, which is where the order is actually won or lost.
The partner, meanwhile, carries several brands and gives attention to whoever makes selling easiest.
When a distributor loses a deal for you, do you know what was said in the room?
Most of your volume goes through dealers, distributors or partners.
Your channel conversations are about targets, schemes and stock rather than about deals.
Your partners sell on price because price is the clearest thing you have given them.
You cannot see what happens between your distributor and the end customer.
Your best partners perform far better than the rest and nobody has established why.
Selling Excellently™ is our method for complex B2B selling: ten modules covering the full arc of a deal, from creating opportunities through to closing and holding the account. For channel-facing teams the diagnosis most often weights four:

Where the attention goes, which partners deserve investment, and what each one actually needs.
Giving them a value argument they can use in front of a customer, not a brochure and a scheme.
Working a live deal with the partner rather than handing it over.
Holding margin and terms without buying attention through discount.
Where it is useful, the partner’s own sales team can be trained alongside yours. In channel-led businesses that is frequently where the return is largest.
Two days of core training, inside a three to six month engagement.
Onsite, live online, or blended.
English, with Hindi, Gujarati and Tamil through certified trainers.
Typically 12 to 20.

Targets, schemes, stock, credit. Useful conversations, all of them, and none of them changes what the partner’s salesperson says in front of a customer.
That is not a partner failure. It is the only argument they were equipped with.
Performance varies enormously across partners handling the same product in similar markets, and almost no manufacturer has examined what the strong ones actually do.

Often yes, and it is where the return is usually largest. We would scope it during the diagnosis, including who pays and who attends.
It is the central fact of the job. You are competing for their attention, not only for the end customer’s order, and the team that makes selling easiest usually wins that competition.
Margin is a reason for the partner to stock you. It is not an argument their salesperson can use in front of a customer. Those are different problems and most manufacturers solve only the first.
Field sales trains people to sell. This trains people to make someone else sell. The underlying method is shared, the weighting is entirely different.
What did your team discuss with your largest partner last month?
Why is your best partner better than your average one?
If those are uncomfortable to answer, twenty minutes on the phone is a reasonable place to start. If the gap is not capability, we will say so.

Channel and distribution sales training for companies whose revenue depends on dealers and partners. We help your channel managers equip partner salespeople to sell your product well, instead of relying on schemes and discounts to move volume.
