Sales Training for Healthcare and Medical Device Companies

THREE PEOPLE DECIDE. YOUR TEAM USUALLY KNOWS ONE OF THEM.

The clinician wants it. The committee buys it. Nobody from your team has met the person who signs.

Selling Excellently™, our ten-module B2B sales method, for institutional, tender and capital equipment selling. Diagnosed first, customised, reinforced after.

Our work in this sector

We work with medical imaging and device manufacturers, healthcare providers and diagnostics businesses, where the gap between clinical enthusiasm and the committee that actually buys is the pattern we find most often.

WHAT THE PROGRAMME IS

Selling Excellently™ is our method for complex B2B selling: ten modules covering the full arc of a deal, from creating opportunities through to closing and holding the account. For healthcare and device teams the diagnosis most often weights four:

A healthcare sales team in a group exercise at a round table
01

Mapping the real decision

Identifying the clinical, procurement and financial roles on every opportunity, and reaching them before a specification is fixed.
What you get: no deal decided by someone your team never met.

02

Early engagement

Being in the account while the requirement is still forming, which is the only point at which a specification can be influenced.
What you get: specifications you helped shape, instead of tenders written around a competitor.

03

Building the economic case

Total cost of ownership, downtime, throughput, consumable and service cost over the life of the asset, in terms a finance signatory can act on.
What you get: a case the finance signatory can approve, so clinical preference turns into an order.

04

Equipping the champion

Your clinical supporter will argue for you in a room you are not in. Most teams send them in with a brochure.
What you get: a champion who can win the internal argument for you.

Built around your product, your tender calendar and live opportunities.

A certified Selling Excellently™ trainer.

Sound Familiar?

THIS IS FOR YOU IF

A trainer presenting findings to a sales team
  1. 01

You are shortlisted often and win less often, and the difference is usually price.

  2. 02

Your team has strong clinical relationships and thin procurement relationships.

  3. 03

You respond to specifications rather than shape them.

  4. 04

Your product is technically better and that keeps not being enough.

  5. 05

Service, AMC and consumable revenue is significant, and nobody sells it as part of the original case.

WHAT WE KEEP FINDING

01

Specifications are shaped before they are published.

If a competitor has worked the institution for six months, the tender often describes their product. Responding to it accurately is not the same as being able to win it, and the pattern is invisible on a pipeline report because the opportunity looks live until the award.

Question In your last five tenders, when did your team first have a conversation inside the account?

02

The technical case is made, the economic case is not.

Specification sheets, comparison tables, clinical evidence, all well prepared. What is missing is a number the finance signatory can act on. The clinical case is argued in clinical language to an audience that does not decide in clinical language.

Question On your last ten losses, had your salesperson met the person who signed?

03

Service and consumables are sold later, separately, and weakly.

The installed base is where the margin lives. AMC renewal and consumable continuity are treated as a service function rather than part of the original commercial case, so renewal becomes a price defence every year.

Question Is your five-year revenue from an account described anywhere in the conversation that wins the first order?

The Bigger Picture

WHERE THIS SITS IN THE SYSTEM

  1. 1

    Diagnose

Win and loss review on recent tenders, stakeholder mapping against who actually signed.

    Sales Diagnostics
  2. 2

    Build Capability

Selling Excellently™, weighted to stakeholder mapping and economic case construction.

    Sales Training Programme
  3. 3

    Coach the Manager

Debriefing an institutional visit on who was met and what was established.

    Manager Coaching
  4. 4

    Reinforce

Live coaching and AI-based practice, so a tender committee conversation is rehearsed before the bid, not after the award.

    Sales Training Reinforcement
  5. 5

    Measure

Signatory access and tender entry point, baselined at diagnosis and reviewed against your records.

    How We Work

You can engage any phase on its own.

Before And After

WHAT GETS MEASURED

Opportunities where the economic signatory was met before a quotation was submitted.

Opportunities entered before a specification was formalised.

The gap between technical shortlisting and commercial award.

Total cost of ownership cases built and presented.

Discount conceded against list, by product line.

Cycle length from first conversation to purchase order.

AMC and consumable continuity secured within the original order.

Baselined before the programme begins. Targets agreed in writing. Institutional purchasing is budget-cycle driven, and a programme should not be credited with a procurement quarter.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you train medical representatives doing prescription detailing?

No. That is a high-volume field force discipline with its own rhythm, and specialist firms serve it better. Our method is built for sales with multiple stakeholders and a long evaluation: institutional, capital equipment, diagnostics and device selling.

We sell almost entirely through distributors. Does this reach them?

The programme trains your team to equip and work a channel, which is the skill most device businesses are missing. Distributor teams can be included, scoped during the diagnosis.

Most of our business is government and trust tenders. Is there selling left to do?

More than most teams act on. The tender is the end of the process, not the whole of it. Access, specification influence and relationships across all three decision roles are available before publication.

Can you include clinical and application specialists who are not salespeople?

Yes, and we usually recommend it. They often carry more influence in the room than the salesperson, and they are the group least likely to have had any sales training.

How is this measured when the cycle is eighteen months?

On the leading measures above, which move inside the cycle, rather than only on closed orders. Which measures are judged when is agreed in writing before delivery.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

  1. A 20-minute call

You tell us what you are seeing. We tell you what we would look at first, and whether training is likely to be the answer.

  2. A written diagnosis, in about two weeks

Your own data, and interviews with your salespeople and managers, separately.

  3. A programme only if you need one

Built on your deals, with measures and review points agreed in writing before anything starts.

Healthcare and medical devices in short

Sales training for healthcare and medical device teams selling into hospitals, where the clinician wants it, a committee buys it, and finance signs. We train your team to engage before the specification is fixed, build an economic case, and equip the clinical champion to win the internal argument.

IF THOSE ARE UNCOMFORTABLE TO ANSWER

If any of the questions on this page were uncomfortable to answer, twenty minutes on the phone is a reasonable place to start. If the gap is not capability, we will say so.
